Walter Vandaele Joins Navigant Economics
CHICAGO, Jun 07, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Navigant Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: NCI) announced today that Dr. Walter H. A. Vandaele has joined Navigant Economics as a Managing Director in the Washington, D.C. office.
Dr. Vandaele's areas of expertise include antitrust economics, industrial organization and econometric and statistical analyses. He also brings to Navigant Economics years of service at the Federal Trade Commission and a unique understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, which gives him valuable knowledge to assist pharmaceutical companies facing continued uncertainty related to patent litigation, increased agency oversight and regulatory and legislative changes.

Dr. Vandaele has focused on economic and damages valuation issues arising in antitrust, patent infringement, breach of contract, and other types of commercial disputes. He has consulted and testified in engagements involving the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in other industries, including telecommunications, computer software, energy services equipment providers, uranium, athletic footwear, and internet services providers. In the context of his pharmaceutical work, Dr. Vandaele has analyzed antitrust issues such as price bundling, loyalty rebates, exclusive dealing, prospective merger impacts, and average wholesale price reimbursement. He also has analyzed patent-related issues such as patent infringement damages, royalty and lost profit disputes, patent-related sources of a drug's "commercial success," and economic factors associated with preliminary injunctions. More generally, Dr. Vandaele's economic consulting for pharmaceutical clients has ranged from analyzing lost profit and lost value damages associated with license and contract disputes and shareholder lawsuits, to providing fairness opinions in class action litigation, to evaluating the "adequacy" of competition in regulatory hearings for registering new importers of narcotic raw materials. He has submitted oral and written testimony in numerous Federal and State Courts, in mediation and arbitration matters and in regulatory proceedings in the United States and abroad.
Previously Dr. Vandaele served as assistant director for regulatory evaluation at the Bureau of Consumer Protection and then as an economic advisor at the Bureau of Competition, Federal Trade Commission. He also served as a faculty member at the Harvard Business School, the Department of Economics at Harvard University, and the University of Chicago. Dr. Vandaele received a licentiaat (MBA) from the University Faculties St. Ignatius, Antwerpen, Belgium; a doctorandus in economics from the University of Tilburg, the Netherlands; and an MBA and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
