Navigant Economics Expands DC Practice

Particular Expertise in Energy Industry Augments Existing Capabilities

CHICAGO, Feb 10, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Navigant (NYSE: NCI) announced today the expansion of the firm's Economics practice in the Washington, DC office with the addition of six individuals with substantial energy industry expertise.

With extensive experience in electricity, pipeline, oil, natural gas, coal and related industries, this team's capabilities include antitrust analysis, economic damages analysis, market design, strategic evaluation, public policy analysis and investment valuation. They have testified on these issues and more in federal court and before regulatory agencies and congress. Joining Navigant Economics are George R. Schink, Cliff W. Hamal, Julie M. Carey, Kathleen J. Rodenrys. In addition, Joe D. Pace and Bruce M. McConihe have joined the group's affiliate network.

Dr. George R. Schink, Ph.D joins as a Managing Director. His areas of expertise include energy, regulatory and financial economics related to the cost of service for regulated entities, antitrust economics, damage and liability analyses, econometrics, and statistics. Schink has done research in energy markets and has extensive experience with regulatory matters regarding electric utilities, gas distribution utilities, oil pipelines, gas pipelines, telecommunications, webcasting, and cable television. Schink has testified as an expert witness in federal and state courts and before federal and state regulatory bodies. Schink received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Cliff W. Hamal joins as a Managing Director and brings over 30 years of professional experience focused on economic issues in the electric power and related industries. With experience ranging from electricity market design, power contract dispute analysis, strategic evaluation and regulatory compliance, his practice encompasses a broad range of economic issues in the industry. His clients have included vertically integrated electric utilities, unregulated electric generation companies, load serving entities, fuel and pipeline companies, equipment suppliers, a debt rating agency, a hedge fund and the US Department of Justice. Hamal has provided testimony in cases before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, federal courts, state public utility commissions, and the Ontario Energy Board.

Dr. Joe D. Pace has joined as a Senior Expert. Pace is an economist with extensive experience specializing in the areas of industrial organization and public utility economics. He has testified before numerous federal and state courts and regulatory commissions. Pace has provided extensive expert testimony addressing a broad range of economic issues in the electric utility industry, other regulated industries, and unregulated industries as diverse as automobiles, computers, internal navigation systems, textile machines, and undersea survey equipment. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan.

Julie M. Carey joins as a Director and brings more than 15 years experience as an economist in the electricity and other network industries such as telecommunications. Her engagements have included antitrust analyses, economic damages, evaluation of contracting practices, supply and demand side analyses, asset valuations, environmental analyses including climate change and clean energy policies. She has testified on matters related to quantification of damages, analyses of competition within wholesale electric utility markets, and other economic issues. Carey received her M.A. in economics from the Pennsylvania State University.

Kathleen J. Rodenrys joins as a Director and brings more than 15 years of experience in economic consulting. Most recently, she has performed a number of market studies for the energy, electric utility, automotive, and entertainment industries. Specifically, she has prepared analyses of the petroleum pipeline industry including competitive conditions, market power, regulatory structure, and cost of capital and competitive market and cost of capital analyses for natural gas and electric utilities. Rodenrys has a B.A. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. and M.Ph. in economics from Yale University.

Bruce M. McConihe has joined as an Affiliate with 30 years of experience focused on regulated industries, especially energy and telecommunications, as it relates to antitrust and market power issues. She has testified before state and federal regulatory commissions addressing acquisitions, divestitures and market-based rate applications. McConihe has represented the Ontario Energy Board as an expert within the Board's policy investigation regarding market-based rates for natural gas storage. In addition, she has provided expert findings to the Securities and Exchange Commission on the general principals concerning regulated industries. McConihe is currently Director of Markets Consulting, LLC.
