Navigant Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: NCI) announced today that Jim Speyer, Julie Solomon, Dr. Matthew Arenchild and Dr. Ajit Kulkarni have recently joined the Energy Practice. The addition of Speyer and Solomon as Managing Directors in the Washington DC office, and Arenchild and Kulkarni as Directors in Sacramento, further deepens Navigant's expertise in the energy sector, particularly in the regulatory space.

Speyer, who has served as Director of Coal and Utility Policy at the U.S. Department of Energy, Director of Energy Policy at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and on President Carter's energy staff, is an expert with more than thirty years of experience providing strategic analysis of energy and environmental issues. He advises financial institutions, coal companies, electric and gas utilities, independent power companies, and other Fortune 500 companies on strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions, restructuring under competition, fuel procurement, valuation of gas and coal-fired power projects, contract litigation, and compliance with environmental regulations.
Solomon has been providing regulatory, economic, financial analysis, and business valuation guidance to electric utilities for more than twenty years. Ms. Solomon advises clients in the electricity and electric generation markets with respect to regulation and competition issues. She testifies frequently on market power and competition issues concerning mergers, asset transfers and market-based rates subject to review by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
Arenchild, a regulatory economist who has worked on energy issues for more than fifteen years, provides market power analyses that apply the various regulatory guidelines, such as FERC's screen for mergers and acquisitions and various guidelines where the parties are seeking to obtain or renew market-based rate authority.
Kulkarni, who has more than twenty-five years of energy industry experience, has an extensive background in power systems analysis, modeling, simulations, algorithms and software development.
