Dr. James Langenfeld Joins Navigant Economics
CHICAGO, Jul 22, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Navigant Economics, a subsidiary of Navigant Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: NCI), announced today that Dr. James Langenfeld has joined the firm as a Managing Director in Chicago. Langenfeld provides economic analyses in litigation and regulatory matters relating to antitrust, intellectual property, class certification, and economic damages issues. He has done extensive work in a variety of industries, including healthcare, consumer products, petroleum, and motor vehicles.
Langenfeld regularly testifies in court for private parties and government agencies engaged in federal, state, and European litigation. He has performed economic analyses of hundreds of mergers, both while in the government and in a consulting and academic capacity. For example, Langenfeld has performed economic analysis of many health policy issues, including hospital mergers, antitrust disputes between hospitals and insurers, and merger of healthcare insurers. He has testified before the Physician Payment Review Commission, before the FTC and Department of Justice, and in court on healthcare issues.
"Jim's combination of government regulatory, academic and private consulting experience creates a unique perspective on economic analyses," stated John Garvey, Managing Director at Navigant Economics. "Additionally, his expertise related to healthcare antitrust issues will be immensely valuable given the dynamic nature of that industry, and provides Navigant's healthcare and other clients with additional expertise."
In addition to over twenty years in economic consulting, Langenfeld's professional experience includes ten years with the Federal Trade Commission. He served as Director for Antitrust in the Bureau of Economics for six of his ten years at the Commission. In that role, he was one of the authors of the 1992 Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission Horizontal Merger Guidelines and the 1993 Statements of Antitrust Enforcement Policy in Health Care. He also served as a Senior Economist at General Motors.
Dr. Langenfeld is an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University Law School in Chicago and has published numerous articles in journals and books on various topics in applied economics and econometrics, including analyses of antitrust issues, mergers and the importance of merger guidelines, intellectual property, and damages. Langenfeld holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Washington University and an A.B. in Economics from Georgetown University.
